What Does It Really Mean to “Be a Man?”: Exploring Male Rites of Passage
Presenting Partner: Plaid
Program Description: The transition from adolescence to manhood is a process that all men go through when developing their independence and purpose in life. In almost every culture throughout human history, male rituals and ceremonies have been an integral part of that society. The process of ushering boys into manhood provides individuals with maturity and respect from peers and allows men to positively contribute to their communities. Fraternities have long been institutions that aid in helping young men transition to adulthood by abiding to organizational values, receiving mentoring from older members and alumni and offering methods to demonstrate their commitment to a higher purpose. In this 90-minute program, participants will explore the importance of rites of passage, examples throughout history and how fraternities can continue the process of developing boys into men.
Time: 90 minutes
Intended Audience: Fraternity men
