Indianapolis – February 16, 2016. The North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) is pleased to announce the addition of Heather Matthews Kirk to the NIC staff in the new role of Chief Communication Officer (CCO).

Kirk spent more than a decade working at Zeta Tau Alpha, including three years as Director of Education & Communication. She led the development and delivery of external and internal communication strategies for the international organization, as well as the creation of educational programs. The work of Kirk and her team won 17 Fraternity Communications Association awards and six NIC Foundation awards. Kirk became a member of ZTA at Louisiana State University and earned her master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University.

As an interfraternal volunteer, Kirk served as the Editor of Perspectives, the quarterly magazine of the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. Additionally, she worked to get the Association’s Advance U professional development webinar series off the ground, which earned her the AFA Volunteer of the Year award.

She comes to the NIC from her role as the Marketing Communications Manager at T2 Systems, a technology corporation among the 25 fastest growing companies in Indiana. At T2, she drives marketing and messaging to support strategic goals and brand position.

“Heather brings a proven track record of success in the fraternal industry, corporate communication experience, and a breadth of relationships that will be critical as we build out the public relations component of NIC 2.0,” said Judson Horras, NIC President and CEO.

In the CCO role, Kirk will focus on advancing the brand of fraternity, creating industry-wide response protocols and resources, and directing the communication strategy for the NIC. She will officially join the staff in March 2016.

“This is a time of historical shift within the fraternal movement,” Kirk said. “We have an opportunity to make transformational change, and I am honored to be part of the team to bring the NIC’s bold vision to reality.”
